Tragedy as woman in her 60s dies in horror crash after smashing into central reservation inside A1 tunnel
A WOMAN in her 60s has tragically died after the Jaguar she was driving crashed inside a tunnel on the A1(M).
She was heading north through the Hatfield, Herts, tunnel in a green Jaguar F-Type on Friday night which then crossed the carriageway and hit the central reservation.
The crash happened just after 9.05pm.
Hertfordshire Police said she died at the scene and her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.
No other vehicles are believed to have been involved.
Sergeant Alex Ward, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances around what happened. We are appealing for any witnesses who saw the collision, or who saw the vehicle travelling in the area prior to it, to please come forward.
“We’re particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have captured dash cam footage.
