Man Utd yet to table 'official offer' for £260,000-a-week star, player 'keen to work with Ten Hag' - report

Manchester United are yet to make a former offer for Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Man United are eyeing a move for De Ligt to replace Raphael Varane. The Netherlands international has already given ‘green light‘ to the Red Devils for a potential transfer.

Bayern ideally want £42 million to sanction the 24-year-old’s exit. However, United are hoping that the Bundesliga club will lower their asking price.

United should speed up their pursuit of De Ligt

De Ligt is at the crossroads of his career after falling down the pecking order at Bayern.

The German giants have already signed Hiroki Ito from Stuttgart and are now setting their sights on Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah.

The Netherlands international previously worked with Erik ten Hag during their time at Ajax between 2017 and 2019.

They won two Eredivisie titles and enjoyed a marvellous Champions League campaign where they progressed to the semi-finals.

De Ligt was a beacon of defensive prowess and leadership under Ten Hag. A deal around £40m seems like a bargain fee for De Ligt.

He made only 30 appearances in the 2023/24 season due to his poor luck with injuries.

He is currently on a £260,000-a-week deal but is willing to take a pay cut to secure a move to Old Trafford this summer.

The Dutch defender and Lisandro Martinez could form a robust partnership in the heart of the defence.

United are also interested in signing another centre-back. However, that would depend on the potential departures of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.
