Rafael Devers reached a career milestone Saturday, and it was only right that Yankees starter Gerrit Cole was there to enjoy it with him.

Cole actually looked miserable, but the Red Sox certainly had fun with it.

Devers guided an RBI single into right field off Cole, sparking a three-run rally in the third inning of Boston and New York’s matinee matchup at Yankee Stadium. It was the 1,000th career hit for the 27-year-old, making him just the sixth player in franchise history to reach the milestone before turning 28.

Devers has historically been a pain in the side of Cole, slashing .306/.375/.917 off the right-hander with seven home runs and 16 RBIs across 40 plate appearances entering Saturday.

We believe they consider that bullying in some states.

Alex Verdugo didn’t wait long to get the Yankees back into the game, knotting things up with a two-run homer (these guys love drama) in the bottom half of the inning. The remainder of the Red Sox and Yankees’ heavyweight bout can be found on NESN.
