‘That should be illegal’ food fans yell after woman shows off mash potato ‘hack’ using bizarre ingredients
MASH potato is a staple food for many households across the country, but one woman’s interpretation of the carb-loaded dish has caused caused a stir.
In fact, her recipe is so controversial people have slammed that it should be ‘illegal’.
Posted on TikTok by mums and Janelle and Kate, their recipe actually doesn’t contain any potatoes at all.
Well, that is unless sour cream and onion crisps cound.
In the video, which has since gone viral and currently has over 2.7 million views, the food lovers start by adding half a large bag of the crisps to a dish.
Next, in goes lashing of sour cream, a tin of mushroom soup, minced garlic and and a chopped onion.
An entire stick of butter was than placed on top as well plenty of milk before everything was mixed together.
The foodies then added more milk and even more crisps until the mixture began to break down.
After all of that, a thick layer of grated mozzarella cheese was scattered on top and the dish was baked until ooey and gooey.
Everything that got a final mix and voila – the so-called mash potato was ready to eat.
Janelle and Kate even claimed the recipe was “the best mashed potato hack” in the caption of the clip.
Unsurprisingly though, not a lot of people agreed with their unusual recipe and it was slated by fellow foodies in the comment section.
One said: “I feel sick just watching this, what’s wrong with using actual potatoes please.”
“I love it when my mash potatoes are a suspicious shade of grey,” a second joked.
“My blood pressure is spiking watching this,” a third said.
“This is exactly what I envision American cuisine to be,” another commented.
Meanwhile, another TikTok user thought the grub looked so gross that “it should be illegal.”
However, one brave foodie said they’d be intrigued to at least give it a go, “I would try it honestly,” they wrote.
And someone else said: “It doesn’t look that bad, it would probably be a little weird because of the crips but it’s not THAT bad.”
