According to a statement issued by the Maryland State Police, Khyree was a passenger in a Dodge Charger, which was being driven by his friend Isaiah Hazel.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing. However, the police suspect that a car “attempted to change lanes while driving at a high rate of speed.” The driver struck another car, which then hit the car driven by Isaiah.
Khyree and Isaiah were pronounced dead on the scene of the accident. A third passenger in the car – Anthony Lytton - was pronounced dead at the hospital. No one else was severely injured.
“Investigators believe alcohol may have been a contributing circumstance in the crash,” the statement reads.
Multiple members of the Vikings issued statements about Khyree on X (formerly Twitter). That includes the owners Mark and Zygi Wilf: “We are deeply saddened by the news of Khyree’s passing. Khyree had an extremely bright future ahead of him as a player, and it was clear he was dedicated to being a tremendous person who made a positive difference in people’s lives. We are thinking about Khyree’s family and friends and all members of the Minnesota Vikings following their devastating loss.”
Our thoughts go out to everyone who knew and loved Khyree at this horrible time. RIP.
