Ex-India star wants team to stick to same batting approach despite loss to Zimbabwe

Despite a very disappointing display by the Indian batsmen in the first T20I against Zimbabwe, ex-Indian batsman, Abhinav Mukund wants the visitors to stick to the same batting approach. After setting up a modest target of 116, an enthusiastic bowling effort by Zimbabwe saw them bowl out India for the only 102 to win the match by 13 runs. The poor shot-making of the Indian batters, three of who made their debut for the side, also helped Zimbabwe’s cause.

While majority of the Indian batters lost their wickets while trying to go for big shots, Mukund said that they should stick to the template but also keep the playing conditions in mind.

“I don’t think they should change their approach. Maybe they should respect the conditions more,” Mukund said on Sony Sports Network after the match.

Skipper Shubman Gill was the top scorer for India in the match, scoring 31 runs off 29 balls while Washington Sundar scored 27 runs off 34 balls and fought till the end but ultimately succumbed to Zimbabwe’s impressive bowling attack comprising of the likes of Sikandar Raza and Tendai Chatara who both took 3 wickets each.
