Rohit Sharma To Lead India In World Test Championship Final, ICC Champions Trophy In 2025, Confirms Jay Shah

New Delhi: Rohit Sharma will lead India in the World Test Championship and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, confirmed BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Sunday. Shah’s comments came in a video, where he also congratulated the Indian team for winning the T20 World Cup for the second time when Rohit Sharma’s boys defeated South Africa in the final by seven runs in Barbados.

Ever since Rohit became the captain, the Indian team are playing an aggressive brand of cricket with a much-improved mindset. In the last 12 months, India played in three ICC finals – WTC final and ODI World Cup final in 2023 and the T20 World Cup final last week. Unfortunately, India lost in both the summit clashes last year.

“I congratulate the Indian team for the win in T20 World Cup 2024. I dedicate this win to head coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja,” Shah said. Incidentally, the trio of Kohli, Jadeja and Rohit retired from T20Is after the World Cup win.

He also thanked the likes of Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and Arshdeep Singh for the T20 World Cup 2024 final win for what they have done in the last five overs. Shah also sounded confident that India win win both the ICC trophies next year under the leadership of Rohit.

“I am confident that under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, we will win the WTC Final and the Champions Trophy,” he added.
