Police are on the trail of a man accused of setting three other people on fire.

The incident is understood to have taken place in Madrid yesterday.

Victims are reported to have been doused with a flammable liquid in the working-class district of Puente de Vallecas at around 9.30pm local time.

All three of the men injured, who were aged between 45 and 50, suffered second-degree burns.

The most seriously hurt among those targeted had more than 20 percent of his body affected, including his back and arms.

Paramedics were able to stabilise the victims’ condition at the scene.

The man who’d suffered the worst burns was then taken to the city’s La Paz Hospital.

The other two victims were taken to Gregorio Maranon hospital.

They suffered less serious injuries, which nevertheless affected their arms and one of their eyes.

Local authorities are understood to have since launched an investigation into the incident.

As of Sunday morning, however, no arrests have yet been made.

It is not clear if the men were deliberately targeted or whether they were victims of a random attack.

Their nationalities have not been disclosed.

A spokeswoman for Madrid’s regional emergency coordination centre said: ‘Paramedics have assisted three men aged between 45 and 50 after they were doused in an inflammable liquid and set alight.

‘One of them was seriously injured and had second degree burns on more than 20 percent of his body.’

Local police meanwhile have not yet issued a statement on the incident or the progress of their investigation so far.
