Set to start on July 16th, it sees two pairs of celebrities go head-to-head in a series of mental and physical challenges.

Each star is locked in an empty box for 24 hours – with only just a toothbrush, toilet and Jimmy Carr on a big screen.

Viewers will watch as the famous faces’ boxes get bigger – or smaller – depending on whether they win rounds.

But during filming Joe caused a stir backstage when he attempted to cook raw sausages on top of a toaster.

Lacking an oven, the 42-year-old was determined to consume his pork treat.

However, he inadvertently gave himself food poising and was left dashing to the toilet in his box.

The Sun's reporters took on Battle in the Box

THE Sun's TV and Showbiz reporters Alex Doyle and Callum Wells took on the brand new game show.

BATTLE in the Box is like a fever dream crossover with Big Brother – only there’s no evictions and it’s even more confined.

The box, which is located in a TV studio in Essex, sees celebs locked in for a full 24 hours. Once there, they’re left to their own devices with their famous partner until Jimmy Carr makes an appearance on screen announcing the next challenge.

During the game each team has the chance to win luxury items for their pad – including seats and a bed. Each time a round is lost, the champions can push the moving wall into their opponents’ side making their living quarters even smaller.

When The Sun was placed into the TV box, our reporters spent just two hours in the glass cage unlike the long-suffering celebrities.

One of the games saw the guys use foam blocks to build a strong enough fort from their competitors. Once the clock ran down, a hatch in the wall on both sides opened and each team had to try and knock each other’s forts to the ground.

With heavy studio lights beaming down and no air conditioning, the game proved to be an uncomfortable one.

Unfortunately for Joe his bad luck continued as he clogged the loo – forcing producers to temporarily halt the show.

A TV insider said: “Joe’s time in the box was hilarious and he’s brilliant telly for fans.

“But even he couldn’t plan the scenes when he made himself sick.

“He’s learnt his lesson the hard way.”

The Sun previously revealed the official lineup for the new game show, which includes a Strictly Come Dancing star.

Battle of the Box starts July 16th when Dave rebrands to U&Dave.
