The Landlord was an intimidating presence for the Blue Devils

Shelden Williams came to Duke with a limited offensive skill set but a definite defensive talent: he wasn’t called the Landlord for nothing. If you went into the lane, you had to pay your rent because there was a pretty good chance that he was going to throw that junk back in your face.

Williams was arguably the best shot blocker Duke ever had. Mark Williams might have an argument but he only stayed for two years.

Williams played with JJ Redick so for most of his career, offense was guaranteed. And as time went on, Williams developed his offensive game. He became a force around the basket on both ends of the court and like Redick, saw his Duke number placed in the rafters.

Williams went on to be taken #5 in the 2006 draft, by the Atlanta Hawks, and although his pro career was never more than average, his Duke career was memorable indeed.
