Man Utd transfer target scores winning penalty to dump Brazil out of Copa America

Manchester United target Manuel Ugarte scored the winning penalty for Uruguay as they beat Brazil 4-2 in the shootout to book a place in the semifinals of the Copa America.

Eder Militao was denied by Sergio Rochet in the shootout while Douglas Luiz hit the post after the score remained 0-0 at the end of extra-time.

Uruguay’s Jose Gimenez failed to convert his spotkick but Ugarte buried the decisive penalty to dump Brazil out of the continental competition.

It was yet another major tournament disappointment for the Selecao as they produced a dire performance to go out of the Copa America at the quarterfinal stage.

Meanwhile, Uruguay showed great resilience and diligence to triumph at the Allegiant Stadium in Nevada and set up a semifinal encounter with Colombia.

Manchester United targeting summer move for Ugarte

United are reportedly eyeing a move for Ugarte in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The Uruguayan footballer joined Paris Saint-Germain last summer from Sporting Lisbon and enjoyed an impressive first season at the Parc des Princes.

He featured in 37 games across all competitions last term, with 25 coming in Ligue 1 and eight in the Champions League.

The 23-year-old could be signed for €50 million but it remains to be seen whether United will avail that offer.

Sofyan Amrabat endured a largely disappointing loan stint in Manchester but ended the season on a high with some impressive performances.

The Red Devils could decide to make the defensive midfielder’s move permanent and if that happens, they will likely not pursue a deal for Ugarte.
