Extended heat wave continues throughout Oregon

Daytime highs in Portland are expected to range from 100 to 103 degrees over the next three days.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Our KOIN 6 Weather Alert is now in place through the start of next week as Portland's afternoon highs are expected to reach dangerous temperatures once again, likely into the low 100s. As a strong ridge of high pressure builds over the PNW, we'll continue to see the hot and dry conditions as well as elevated fire danger around our region.

Daytime highs in Portland are expected to range from 100 to 103 degrees over the next three days.

While we prepare for the triple digits, we've already had two straight days of record-breaking daytime highs. Saturday we set a record after reaching 99 degrees in Portland. The previous record for July 6 was 97 degrees, set back in 1960.

Weather Alerts This Weekend

Not only does the Willamette Valley have an Excessive Heat Warning in effect now until Tuesday night, but there's also a Red Flag Warning this weekend for parts of southern and central Oregon.  With the dry and hot weather as well as breezy conditions that means any fire that develops will then most likely spread quickly.

Medford reached a daytime high of 112 degrees on Saturday as the surrounding area experiences elevated fire danger this weekend.

When Will We See Some Relief?

It's not until midway through next week that we start to see a slight change in our afternoon temps – with the lower-90s expected on Wednesday before we enjoy the upper-80s late next week.

By late next week, we'll also finally start to see our overnight lows return to the upper-50s after hanging out the mid- to upper-60s.

Stay with the KOIN 6 Weather Team as the dangerous heat continues to build over the Pacific Northwest.
