Pokémon GO Fest draws thousands in final day in NYC

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) -- The biggest Pokémon celebration in the United States is wrapping up after a big weekend on Randall's Island.

Pokémon GO Fest, an annual event that was expected to draw tens of thousands of players and over 600,000 players, took over Randall's Island starting Friday. The multi-day festival took place in New York City, Madrid, and Sendai, Japan this summer.

"People can meet Pikachu and Eevee, we can visit our special event pop up shop and most importantly play together," said Divya Erram, global lead for Pokémon GO Fest. "Pokémon GO is here to stay."

Attendees got access to exclusive gameplay, special bonuses and photo opportunities at Pokémon backdrops. But all over New York City, players got to explore the city through the game.

Tickets are still available for the afternoon shift of the festival Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
