The spokesperson for Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health has denied reports of two positive polio cases in Kandahar province, as he informed Khaama Press.

Sources within the provincial Department of Public Health and local media on Saturday, July 6, reported that two positive polio cases were registered in the Shah Wali Kot and Registan districts.

According to claims, these children, a four-year-old girl and a five-year-old boy, had recently arrived from Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the “Afghanistan Polio Eradication Initiative” announced the launch of a polio vaccination campaign in several provinces within a few days.

Reports indicate that since the beginning of the current solar year, five cases of polio have been recorded in the provinces of Nuristan, Kandahar, Herat, and Ghazni.

It is noteworthy that Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only two countries in the world where polio has not been eradicated among children.

Meanwhile, the recent reports of polio cases underscore the ongoing challenges in eradicating the disease in Afghanistan, highlighting the critical importance of vaccination campaigns and cross-border cooperation to prevent its spread. Continued efforts are essential to achieving a polio-free future for children in Afghanistan.
