Coco Gauff's Wimbledon loss leaves a women's quarterfinal field full of long-shots and betting opportunity

Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff were ousted in consecutive days.

2023 Wimbledon singles champion Marketa Vondrousova had +8000 odds to win the tournament prior to her stunning run to the title. As the 2024 field continues to dwindle, it’s becoming more possible we’ll have a similar long-shot winner again next week.

A day after world No. 1-ranked Iga Swiatek was stunned by Yulia Putintseva in the third round, No. 2 Coco Gauff lost in straight sets Sunday to No. 19 Emma Navarro in the fourth round, leaving the Wimbledon field without two of its top-three opening favorites as the quarterfinals approach.

And Gauff (+400) wasn’t the only upset Sunday. Emma Raducanu (+1600), who was tied for the fifth-best opening odds, lost to Lulu Sun, and an injury forced Madison Keys (+1600) to retire against Jasmine Paolini. With their losses, Elena Rybakina at +350 is the last remaining player who had odds shorter than 40-1 entering the tournament.

Rybakina, who plays her fourth-round match Monday, is now down to +200 as she prepares for Anna Kalinskaya.

As for the rest of the field, picking a winner won’t be easy but it could be profitable. Even with it being significantly trimmed down, most of the players are still priced at 10-1 or longer.
