'Tweeting from Cancun?' Ted Cruz buried in jokes after warning about Texas hurricane Beryl

Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz is in hot water after warning about high water from a hurricane-strength storm heading toward his state.

Cruz on Sunday shared a social media post from Jim Mattress Mack McIngvale, the founder of Gallery Furniture in Houston.

"Gallery Furniture is here for you as Hurricane Beryl approaches," the post states. "Call us if you need us!"

Cruz shared the post and captioned it with, "Mack is an American hero."

"Stay safe & avoid high water as the hurricane makes landfall," the senator wrote Sunday.

The comments didn't go as he planned.

@darqball wrote, "How’s the weather in Cabo? U with ugly Heidi?"

@ZekeFromAbove added, "How’s the coverage of the storm at the resort in Puerto Vallarta?"

@CopierCollin said, "Ted Cruz and his family abandoning his constituents before Beryl makes landfall."

@MrLeroyKincaid asked Cruz, "Leaving town? Again?"

@NMBAJV also chimed in over the weekend, "You Tweeting from Cancun Fled Ted? We all know you’re NO Hero."
