Sports briefs: Mill Valley 12s top Twin Cities for title

Beckett Glynn had three hits and drove in three runs, helping the Mill Valley 12s Little League team end the District 3 championship game a little early with a 10-0, five-inning victory against Twin Cities at Joe Wagner Field in Larkspur on Sunday.

Mill Valley (8-1) led 4-0 going into the fifth inning then scored six times to end the game there. The game was the last of the three District 3 title games all held at Joe Wagner on Sunday.

This same Mill Valley team won the 11s championship last year and will be eligible to go to Williamsport for the Little League World Series if it advances far enough in the rest of the postseason. The next step in that quest is the Section 1 playoffs, which begin Friday in Dixon.

Mill Valley’s final five runs of the game all came with two outs in the fifth inning. Levi Weber had two hits, Hudson Wayne had a hit, an RBI and scored two runs.

Starting pitcher Oscar Karlen continued his stellar postseason with five innings of two-hit ball, including four strikeouts.

Chase Coghlan and Cyrus Lee had the hits for Twin Cities (8-1), which allowed 12 hits and committed five errors in the game.

The rivalry between Novato North and Twin Cities continued as these two teams met in the championship game for their age group for the third consecutive season.

Novato North scored single runs in the top of the fifth and sixth innings to to pull a 2-1 win on Sunday.

Novato North won the title game between these two teams in 2022 then Twin Cities took the victory last season en route to a 16-1 campaign and a state championship.

Novato North (8-1) had 11 hits on the day. Atreyu Jacobs singled in the fifth to drive in a run for Novato North before Naren Atkins hit a double for Twin Cities (8-1) to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the frame.

Liam Healy drove in the winning run with a single in the sixth to score Ian Bowman. Twin Cities drew two walks in the bottom of the inning but made two outs on the basepaths to end the game.

Enzo Martinelli, Brody Von Behren, Healy, and Jacobs had two hits apiece for Novato North. Starting pitcher Cyrus Bentaleb worked 5.1 innings, allowing six hits and an unearned run. Kingston Jepma was on the mound as Novato North got the final two outs.

Naren Atkins led Twin Cities with two hits. Oliver Brown, Auggie Zola-Kahn, and Santiago Saeltzer also had hits.

Novato North moves on to the Section 1 playoffs, which begin Thursday in American Canyon.

Archie Mah and Cole Shambroom provided the biggest hits of the day as Twin Cities used a three-run fourth inning to gain some separation en route to a 5-1 win against Mill Valley on Sunday.

Mah hit an RBI single to increase Twin Cities’ lead to 3-0 then Shambroom following with a two-run triple for a 5-0 lead.

Doug Formby and Max Reale both had two hits apiece for Twin Cities (9-0), and Curran Schlagenhauf had two RBIs.

Starting pitcher Conor Gray worked 5.2 innings, allowing five hits and an unearned run while striking out five. Cameron Costa came on in the bottom of the sixth to record the final out.

Milo Davies had two of the five hits for Mill Valley (7-2). Laszlo Winn, Tate Shackleton, and Cameron Welstead also had hits for Mill Valley.

Twin Cities advances to the Section 1 playoffs which begin on Friday at Lucchesi Major Field in Petaluma.

Baseball

The San Rafael Pacifics won a pitchers’ duel against the Marysville Drakes on Saturday, pulling out a 2-0 victory despite being limited to just two hits.

Both of San Rafael’s runs came in the fifth inning. Aki Buckson got to first to lead off the inning after being hit by a pitch. Chris Blyskal got to first on a fielder’s choice while Buckson advanced to third. Braxton King drove in both runners with a one-out single.

Pitcher Eric Parnow got the start for the Pacifics (26-12), working seven inning while allowing two hits, no runs and striking out 10. Marysville (22-15) was held to four hits in the game.

The Pacifics return to action with a road game against Martinez at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
