According to recent polls, the left-wing coalition “New Popular Front” is leading in France’s second round of parliamentary elections, surpassing the right-wing “National Rally” to secure the most seats.
Preliminary estimates suggest the “New Popular Front” coalition will secure between 172 to 192 seats, with centrist parties led by Emmanuel Macron’s En Marche and the right-wing “National Rally” following in second and third positions, respectively.
Official figures from the second round of parliamentary elections in France indicate an increased voter turnout compared to the first round.
According to the French Ministry of Interior, voter turnout at 17:00 local time on Sunday, July 7th, reached 59.71%, 0.3% higher than the first round at the same hour.
These statistics show a significant increase compared to the previous parliamentary elections in 2022.
It is expected that the far-right party in France will gain a relative majority of parliamentary seats, a shift that could bring about major changes in the country’s domestic and foreign policies.
Polling stations opened across France on Sunday morning, inviting approximately 49 million eligible French voters to vote in these elections.
The initial election results will be announced at 20:00 local time.
Following the first round, where the far-right party dominated in terms of votes, Le Monde reported that “National Rally” led the first round of French parliamentary elections with around 34% of the votes.
