BCCI secretary Jay Shah had announced the huge prize money soon after India won the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados, beating South Africa in the final.

New Delhi: Soon after India defeated South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah announced prize money of a whopping Rs 125 crore for the entire contingent. Indian sports have never witnessed such big prize money. As a result, there was always a curiosity about how much the players will get richer. Based on an Indian Express report, all the players, including the three who didn’t get a game, and head coach Rahul Dravid will get Rs 5 crore each.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yuzvendra Chahal and Sanju Samson are the players who didn’t get a game. The rest of the core coach staff – batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and fielding coach T Dilip – will get richer by Rs 2.5 crores. The members of the selection committee including chairman Ajit Agarkar will receive Rs 1 crore each.

The rest of Dravid’s backroom staff will be rewarded too. Rs 2 crore each will be given to three physiotherapists, three throwdown specialists, two masseurs and the strength and conditioning coach. Even the four reserve players – Rinku Singh, Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed – will be getting Rs 1 crore each.

“I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 Crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team has showcased exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and support staff for this outstanding achievement!” Shah had posted on the night of June 29.

Kamlesh Jain, Yogesh Parmar and Thulasi Ram Yuvraj are the three physiotherapists while Raghavindraa Dvgi, Nuwan Udeneke and Dayanand Garani constitute the throwdown specialists team. Two masseurs are Rajeev Kumar and Arun Kanade while Soham Desai is the strength and conditioning coach.

The current prize money is way higher than the previous years when India won an ICC tournament. When India won the 2013 Champions Trophy, the BCCI announced a prize money of Rs 1 crore for each player. The support staff that time got Rs 30 lakhs each.

In 2011, the Indian players received Rs 2 crore each for winning the ODI World Cup while the support got Rs 50 lakh each. The then-selection committee members got richer by Rs 25 lakh. Meanwhile, the whole Indian team got Rs 12 crore for winning the T20 World Cup in 2007.
