New Chancellor Rachel Reeves to reveal ‘difficult decisions’ in first speech as Tories fear ‘extinction’ from Farage

RACHEL Reeves will pledge to “fix the foundations” of the British economy in her first major speech as the new chancellor.

In an address to business leaders, she says she will take tough decisions to deliver on the government’s new mandate.

The new cabinet has also announced its first week in office will include a shake-up of planning regulations and talks to end the junior doctor strikes.

It comes as Keir Starmer makes a visit to Northern Ireland and the Tories admit they are in disarray with former home secretary Suella Braverman, viewed as one of the favourites to lead the party, stating the Tories face “an existential threat” from the rise of Nigel Farage’s Reform UK in last week’s election.
