The Ministry of Home Affairs in Nepal has reported that recent floods and landslides in the country have claimed the lives of at least 62 people, with dozens more injured.

The ministry stated in a statement released on Sunday, July 7th, that the floods and landslides have also caused significant financial damage and loss of life.

According to reports, 34 people lost their lives due to landslides, while another 28 perished in the raging floods. According to the Ministry’s statement, seven individuals remain missing, and approximately 1,058 families have been displaced.

Furthermore, Raj Paudyal, a local official, mentioned that the water level in the Koshi River in southern Nepal, which annually causes floods in Bihar state, India, has doubled. This occurs annually due to monsoon rains, landslides, earthquakes, and sudden floods, claiming hundreds of lives.

Meanwhile, the devastating impact of floods and landslides in Nepal underscores the ongoing vulnerability of communities to natural disasters.

Immediate relief efforts and long-term measures to enhance disaster resilience are crucial to mitigating such losses and safeguarding lives and livelihoods in the region.
