Recently discontinued sports car ‘is a sure-fire future classic’ that’s reasonably priced – and it won’t drop in value

A MUCH-LOVED sports car that was discontinued earlier this year has been dubbed a “sure-fire future classic” by a motoring guru.

The final Audi R8 rolled off the production line for last time back in March after a 17-year run – with an electric replacement possibly in the works.

The R8 is considered a future classic by many petrolheads

The mid-engined R8 is adored by petrolheads for its thrilling driving experience and everyday usability, while still maintaining a reasonable priced when compared to other supercars on the market – especially second-hand.

Upon its release in 2007, the first-gen R8 boasted a growling 4.2-litre V8 motor capable of producing 414 bhp, while a 5.2-litre V10-engined model was released in 2009 – the same you’d find under the bonnet of the Lamborghini Gallardo.

Naturally, its also comes with Audi‘s famed Quattro four-wheel drive system to aid traction – giving it remarkable handling.

Naturally, the R8 is widely considered a modern classic – and some car experts even believe it could be worth its weight in gold in years to come.

One such expert is YouTube star Jonny Brighton of the channel Cars With JB, who featured the R8 in his list of exotic cars that he believes won’t drop in value in the coming years.

Jonny said: “The first-gen Audi R8 bottomed out on price probably about four or five years ago now.”

  2. Mini Clubman
  3. Audi TT
  4. Ford Fiesta
  5. Aston Martin DBS

The motoring guru noted the similarities to Audi’s sibling brand Lamborghini with their Gallardo model, saying: “You can think of this to some degree as a baby Gallardo, as it shares its chassis with that car as well as a few other parts – including the engine on V10 models.”

He added: “I personally think they look pretty iconic and are a sure-fire future classic known as the car that propelled Audi into the supercar market.”

According to Jonny, an Audi R8 can be picked up second-hand today for as little as £27,000, with £30,000 enough for a 2007 model with many miles on the clock.

Indeed, we found a stunning example with 107,000 miles on the clock for £30,137 on the CarGurus website.

However, if you are to pick one up on a budget, Jonny warns: “Your biggest cost will be the maintenance and repairs rather than the car itself.”

This comes as a group of petrolheads discovered an Audi R8 abandoned and “rotting” before they restored it back to life.

And elsewhere, an iconic supercar that was once the fastest in the world and previously fetched £16m at auction is up for sale again with a shockingly low mileage.
