The Bahamas’ bid to reach the Paris Olympics ended at the hands of Spain on Sunday, and guard Buddy Hield says the referees were largely to blame.
“The refs, the refs, the refs,” Hield said of the “the crucial part” of the Bahamas’ 86-78 loss to Spain in Valencia.
The Bahamas shot 10-of-13 from the line while Spain shot 23-of-25.
“I know we’re in Spain,” said Hield, who was recently traded to the Golden State Warriors from the Philadelphia 76ers. “It is what it is.”

Led by Hield, Deandre Ayton, Eric Gordon and VJ Edgecombe, the Bahamas was bidding for its first Olympic appearance.
They came up short but put on a dramatic run to the final.
The 6-foot-5 Edgecombe, an incoming freshman at Baylor and a projected lottery pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists in four games while shooting 57% from the field and 39% from deep.
