Pontypridd RFC are very pleased to announce that former Pontypridd, Cardiff Rugby and Exeter Chiefs hooker Iestyn Harris has joined the Club as Assistant Coach for the 2024/25 season.

Iestyn played three matches for Pontypridd towards the end of 2017 as a fledgling youngster whilst linked to the Cardiff Blues academy. The Rhondda native would go on to have a stellar career in the professional game with Cardiff Rugby and the Exeter Chiefs whilst gaining international honours with Wales U16s, U18s and U20s.

Iestyn was part of the Exeter side that won the 2023 Premiership Rugby Cup Final but he unfortunately had to retire from the sport at the end of last season on medical grounds. Moving onto the next chapter in his career, we are delighted to welcome him back to Sardis Road as part of our young, vibrant coaching team. Iestyn will combine his assistant coaching role with the role of Skills Coach during the team’s 2024/25 campaign.

Iestyn, seen here fending off former Ponty senior, youth, mini & junior and current Wales international Dillon Lewis back on Saturday 23rd December 2017 at Sardis Road. The Valley Commandos sealed the derby spoils against Cardiff by 20 points to 18 that evening, and also in shot is former Pontypridd favourite Wayne Evans and current Head Coach Chris Dicomidis.

On returning to Ponty as a Coach, Iestyn said: “I’m very grateful to Dico, the coaches and everyone at Pontypridd for welcoming me back to the club. I’m excited to get started and help the boys in anyway I can.”

As equally excited to have Iestyn onboard for the upcoming season, Head Coach Chris Dicomidis said: “This is a really exciting appointment. Although young in age Iestyn has a wealth of experience and knowledge that our players and coaches can learn and improve from. Iestyn comes to us from Exeter Chiefs, having been coached by some of the best in the business so we are really excited at what he can bring to the group. With Parker and Garyn playing it was important to have another set of eyes pitch side to bounce ideas about whilst the game is ongoing. Iestyn is a Ponty boy who understands our values and the way we want to play, which was important when approaching him to come onboard.”

Croeso nôl, Iestyn!
