Kandi Burruss swears by her ‘simple’ skincare routine with $1 and $6.99 buys – plus her trick for looking well-rested

SINGER-songwriter Kandi Buruss doesn’t like scrubs — she famously wrote a TLC song about it — but she does swear by some affordable products for scrubbing her skin better.

The former Real Housewives of Atlanta star and beauty brand founder revealed her favorite budget buys to The U.S. Sun.

The 48-year-old lyricist, who has penned hits for everyone from Pink to Destiny’s Child, shared how she loves her low-maintenance skincare methods.

“I’m very simple — I use Dove soap as a cleanser,” Kandi said.

“As far as moisturizers, I do like really like Aquaphor a lot,” she continued.

“I’m not one of those people that needs a lot of high-priced products to make me feel like my skin is doing well.”

The mom, who is the newest face of weight loss supplement brand Hydroxycut, also has her own line of products, Kandi Koated Cosmetics, which is available on Amazon.

Not one to get a lot of snoozes, Kandi has had to find a way to fake her beauty sleep.

“Whenever I go somewhere or I’m doing a video before I put my makeup on, people are always saying, ‘You look so tired,'” she said.

“For all you hard workers out there, team no sleep, make sure you keep a good concealer,” she added.

Though she is a fan of Mac’s Pro Longwear concealer — and of course Kandi Koated Finesse Concealer — she always has another frugal find in her bag.

“One concealer I really love, and it’s really cheap too, you can get it at any beauty supply, is from LA Girl.”

She has also learned that less is more, especially when it comes to turning back the clock with her makeup routine.

“I don’t want to say as I get older — but as I have matured, because I’m definitely well into my 40s — whenever I do get my makeup done, I always try to ask them not to go too hard on the contour,” she said.

“I don’t want them to overdo it,” she added.

“Softer looks are better because when you overdo your contouring and use too harsh a makeup, it makes you look older, so it’s better to wear less makeup as you mature.”

PUTTING ON POUNDS

Kandi, who is embarking on a summer Xscape tour, also wants to ensure that she can perform without putting on the pounds.

She doesn’t just want to think she’s fly like those “scrubs” she writes about — she wants to feel like it.

“At my birthday this year, I was 20 pounds heavier than I was at my birthday last year,” she said.

She attributes this weight gain to quitting Housewives at the beginning of the year — and enjoying herself a bit too much.

“I’ve been eating good, having fun and all that stuff, hanging out, and also gaining weight,” she said.

The situation especially got real for the reality star after somebody made a comment about her apparent weight gain on one of her husband Todd Tucker’s online videos.

LOSING THE WEIGHT

After trying different weight loss treatments, she went back to something that had previously helped her fit into all of her clothes.

“Hydroxycut is one of those tried and true supplements that I know works for me,” she said.

“I definitely feel like it will give you a nice pace of losing weight,” she added.

“I know some people are in this era where they want to lose 100 pounds overnight, but it doesn’t work like that.”

Since she started on Hydroxycut just a few weeks ago, she has already lost ten pounds.

Kandi raved about the boost of energy and confidence it has given her.

She showed how her Hydroxycut plan has reduced her rolls that not long ago were hanging over her bra strap.

“I’m getting that much closer to my comfortable weight, but this time, my goal is to slim myself down some more to give myself some room,” she said.

“I’m going to pace myself over the next couple of months and I’m also going to add on working out.

“I feel like Hydroxycut has helped me stick to my eating plan because it has helped me curb my appetite a little bit so I’m not having as much impulse eating as I did before.”

According to Kandi, you can’t just decide on a plan, you have to follow through with the process.

“So many times we go on diets and don’t stick to it and find ourselves getting depressed because we didn’t get to the weight we wanted to get to or the look we wanted,” she said.

“I think it’s really a mind over matter type of thing – you want better for yourself and the way you look — so I think everything together is what’s really working for me.”

She was also excited to be able to try out their newest product, Pro-Clinical Glucose Support and Berberine-DHB, which will be available later this summer.

The supplement is described as helping you lose weight quicker – and in an even healthier fashion.

“It’s always good when you have the inside scoop,” she said.

Former reality stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt have also shared with The U.S. Sun how they are getting beach body ready with Hydroxycut.

Spencer followed in his wife’s fitness footsteps by becoming the face of the brand after Heidi lost 20 pounds.

A SCRUB IS A GUY WHO…

Though she is happily married, Kandi, who famously penned 1999’S No Scrubs for girl group TLC, can still always spot a scrub.

“The telltale sign of a scrub really hasn’t change,” she said.

“You’ll always have the guy on the passenger side, always wanna flex like it’s his ride instead of his friend’s,” she joked.

“I feel like overall we’re just looking for good people — good people to be friends with, good people to date, and so if you’re not a good person, you’re automatically a scrub.”
