NEW JERSEY (PIX11) – Fireworks were blamed for a fast-moving wildfire, which has engulfed thousands of acres in southern New Jersey, according to authorities.
The fireworks were lit in Wharton State Forest on the Fourth of July, per the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.
The blaze wasn't spotted until the morning after near a campground that was later evacuated. The fire scorched an estimated 4,000 acres as of Sunday.
It was 75% contained as of Sunday, according to authorities.
Officials ask anyone with information to call the state park police tip line at 844-PARK-TIP (844-727-5847).
