Several Democratic lawmakers have called for President Biden to drop his reelection bid since his disastrous debate performance last month, and a further rebellion against him in the Senate and House is expected this week, as Congress returns from recess. In an attempt to get ahead of any more defections, Joe Biden wrote a letter to Democrats on Capitol Hill Monday morning, making it clear that he has no plans of leaving the ticket. “Despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere,” he wrote, “I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump.”

Biden echoed his remarks during an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe after the letter’s release, daring his critics to use more than just their words. “If any of these guys don’t think I should run, run against me. Announce for president, challenge me at the convention,” he said.
