Lily Allen reveals bitter showbiz feud with superstar after row over her boyfriend – and cruel way she ‘took revenge’
LILY Allen has revealed she was once involved in a bitter showbiz feud with a superstar celebrity.
Singer Lily, 39, explained how the row broke out over her rival’s boyfriend before divulging the cruel way she ‘took revenge’.
The Smile songstress told listeners of her Miss Me? podcast that the incident had taken place at Elton John‘s house in the South of France, back when she was just 24.
Speaking to her best pal Miquita Oliver, 40, Lily ensured to keep the woman’s name a mystery – but did drop a few hints as to who it could be.
She revealed that the star was “incredibly beautiful”, a “lot older” and “more successful”, with a musician partner at the time.
Having been sent to Elton’s house following a spell of excessive drinking in 2009, the female A-lister is said to have contacted her to perform at a charity bash.
Lily said: “While I was there, I got a phone call from somebody very famous at the time asking me if I could perform at a charity event that they were involved in.
“She was asking me to sing a song with her boyfriend, who was a musician.
“I said, ‘I’d love to but it’s next week and I haven’t got any time to rehearse because I’m in the South of France.’
“She was like, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll come out there and we’ll rehearse with you.’
“They come to the South of France, they arrive, and it’s like late afternoon and she’s like, ‘I think you guys should sing The Sound of Silence.’
“And I was like, ‘Ooh, I don’t know about that, I really don’t want to – that’s out of my comfort zone’. And she got the right hump.
“I was like, ‘I think maybe we would be better suited to doing something like Something Stupid.’
“I said, ‘Look, I’ll go downstairs with your boyfriend and we’ll practice the song and then we’ll come up and then we’ll sing it for you and see how you feel about it.’
“And she grabbed my arm and she said, ‘If you think I’m leaving you alone with my f***ing boyfriend you’ve got another thing coming.’
“I was on my own in this house and it was the two of them and just me, and she was quite a lot older than me, and a lot more famous and more successful, and I just thought, ‘I’m stranded and you’ve got me snookered.’
“And I was like, ‘I’m banking this feeling and I will remember it, and I will get you back one day.’
“Her boyfriend was not someone I found remotely attractive and she was incredibly beautiful – still is – and so should not have found me remotely a threat. I was definitely in my like puffy strung out phase.”
Lily continued: “We get to London, we do the event, make loads of money for the charity – she never said thank you for my involvement.
“A couple of weeks later, I got asked by an awards ceremony if I would be the recipient of a very prestigious award. I said, ‘Yes, thank you so much, that’s very nice.’
“And then they said, ‘Is there anybody that you would like to present you with the said award?’
“I was like, ‘At what point in the proceedings does this award get awarded?’
“And they were like, ‘It’s the penultimate award.’
“I was like, ‘There is no way this person will be able to hold themselves together for that long and if I can stay sober then she’ll have to present me with the award when I’m looking pristine and brilliant and she looks completely f***ed.’
“And it f***ing worked. Front cover of the papers the next day were like, ‘So and so was a complete mess,’ and then pictures of me with my award.”
But Allen added soon afterwards: “That person, I actually really like them now. It was just a particularly bad phase that both of us were going through at the time.
“All is forgiven on my part anyway. But she’s probably just finding out.
“So if you are listening and you recognise yourself in this story ‘I’m sorry.’ It was particularly petty.”

The mum-of-two is no stranger to a celebrity spat, previously revealing how she’d locked horns with Elton, himself.
Lily candidly told how the Rocket Man hitmaker was the subject of her gripes for many years, before a twist in the tale set things straight.
On her podcast, she told Miquita of a candid letter she sent to the popstar, who had given up booze.
Lily said: “Over the next few years as my life began to spiral out of control, I held much resentment for the fact that I’d made myself very vulnerable in this letter and told him all about my sobriety.
“He’s a sober person so I thought he would have responded to this letter. I was quite cross with him for a few years.
“I thought it was mean of him.”
Yet her anger was proven to have been misplaced.
Lily, who is married to Stranger Things actor David Harbour, then told how she never sent the letter at all.
She said: “Then, when I moved here to America, I was unpacking and I found the letter.
“I hadn’t sent it. I’d been harbouring all of this Elton resentment.”
