Pro-Palestinian protesters burned American flags while waving Palestinian ones last week in Philadelphia during a protest organized by the Philly Palestine Coalition. The rally, dubbed “All out for Gaza,” attracted about 400 protestors and resulted in at least six arrests.

The Coalition was created in October when Israel entered Gaza in response to Hamas’s attacks and abductions on Oct. 7.

The protest began in Rittenhouse Square and spread as protestors marched down Chestnut Street. Police told 6ABC that “acts of vandalism” occurred, but did not specify what type.

Once the protestors reached Philadelphia City Hall, they began to burn several American flags. A video of the protest shows remnants of American flags still burning on the ground when police and protestors began to clash.

On Instagram, the Philly Palestine Coalition called for people to “join us as we stand with the resistance and support Palestine, not AmeriKKKA!” The group also denounced the Fourth of July, calling Independence Day a symbol of “genocide, colonialism, and slavery” and “hypocritical.” (READ MORE: From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Indeed be Free)

Protestors condemned Israel’s occupation of Gaza and demanded a ceasefire, though they were not in favor of the ceasefire resolution adopted by the UN Security Council. They chanted “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” “Free, free Palestine,” and carried banners bearing the emblems of Hamas and Hezbollah. Both groups have been designated terrorist organizations by the US government.

Philadelphia is not the only city affected by anti-Israel protests. Protestors have disrupted Independence Day celebrations across the country. Disturbances include the desecration of Jewish graves in Ohio and more American flags being burned in New York City while protestors shouted “burn it down.”
