City Of Troy officially rated the worst winner of Coral-Eclipse this century

CITY OF TROY’s Coral-Eclipse win at Sandown has been rated as the WORST this century.

Data experts Timeform were less than impressed by Aidan O’Brien’s star’s workmanlike win at Sandown last Saturday.

He came into the race on the back of an incredible win in the Derby, which saw him bounce back from a high-profile flop in the 2,000 Guineas.

Rain pummelled Sandown in the lead up to the Coral-Eclipse, however, and an anxious O’Brien even considered pulling him out ahead of the big race.

But O’Brien and Coolmore decided to keep him in and he repaid their faith by getting the job done.

It wasn’t impressive and it certainly wasn’t flashy, with Timeform rating the performance just 120.

Timeform said: “City Of Troy gained a fifth win from six starts, though given how simple his task looked it was a rather underwhelming effort.

“The shorter trip and steadier pace perhaps didn’t suit him as well as the Derby had, while, most significantly of all, ground that had become very taxing.

“He knuckled down late and left the impression at the line that he had more in the tank to call upon had it been required.”

City Of Troy remains on a rating of 127p, the figure he was given after his Derby romp, with the ‘p’ denoting that he’s capable of much better under the right circumstances.

City Of Troy’s main goal is a crack at the Breeders’ Cup Classic in November, a race ‘the lads’ desperately want to win.

His next target remains unknown, though a crack at the Juddmonte International or Irish Champion Stakes have both been mentioned.

He is a warm 6-4 favourite for both races.
