Vehicle shot following NE Portland street takeover

Drivers at a street takeover quickly fled the scene following gunshots early Sunday morning in Northeast Portland.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Drivers at a street takeover quickly fled the scene after shots rang out early Sunday morning in Northeast Portland, police said.

Late Saturday night, the street racers took over the intersection of Northeast 57th Avenue and Northeast Sandy Boulevard.

One witness, Greg, who recorded the incident, told KOIN 6 News that everything was fine until people began firing fireworks into the crowd.

Portland police said they responded to the scene of the street takeover around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday morning which is when it was reported that shots had been fired.

According to officials, the gunshots caused the street racers to scatter from the scene.

One spectator, who had left after the first gunshots told police they were driving down Northeast Thompson Street near Northeast 56th Avenue when they heard shots ring out again.

Police confirmed they found shell casings on the ground and that the spectator's vehicle had been shot.

The incident is under investigation. There were no reported injuries.
