Man Utd forward met with the club’s leadership team this morning to discuss a summer exit - report

Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood returned to the Carrington training base this morning to discuss a summer exit from the club, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

The Englishman is back in England after the end of his season-long loan spell in La Liga with Getafe, and he is not short of suitors.

Greenwood has already started individual training to maintain his fitness ahead of a move elsewhere.

The 22-year-old met with Man United’s football leadership team, holding talks about resuming his career away from his childhood club as there is no way back for him there.

Greenwood will not rejoin the first-team squad despite the resumption of pre-season training, and talks are about him securing an exit from the Red Devils.

The Man United academy graduate was officially named Getafe Player of the Season for 2023-24 following his impressive loan spell.

He bagged eight goals and six assists in 33 La Liga games to help the Spanish top-flight club finish 12th.

Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Napoli, Valencia and Lazio have all registered interest in signing Greenwood.

Marseille are the front-runners for him after they made a firm offer and entered advanced negotiations with Man United.

Greenwood last plated for Man United in January 2022 before returning to first-team action for Getafe last September.

He was suspended by the club after being charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The United Kingdom’s Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges against him due to the withdrawal of key witnesses in February 2023, and Greenwood has continued to deny all allegations.

United initially planned to reintegrate him into the squad but abandoned those plans after receiving widespread condemnation of the idea.
