I tried all the supermarket family meal deals – one had two HUGE pizzas and nachos for a tenner
FOOTBALL is perfect for getting the family together for food.
And if your nerves can stand it when England play the Netherlands in the Euros semi-final tomorrow – a bit of pizza will go down a treat.
It is a good thing many supermarkets are offering some great meal deals for the 2024 tournament.
But you need to make sure what you get is both tasty and value for money.
Consumer expert Martyn James said: “Somewhere in the aisles is a great two-for-one deal, but don’t be dazzled by quantity or the labels.
“Price up the most expensive items and make sure you get the best combo that way.”
Lynsey Hope had a look to see which Euro meal deal is best value for money – and rates how good they taste.
Sainsbury’s, £12 Two pizzas, two sides and a dip – 4/5
THE pizzas are usually £5.25 by themselves so you are definitely making a saving and it looks like a generous helping of food for £12.
The pizzas were among the best we tried, too, and the kids lapped up the garlic bread side and cookie dough pudding. I was really impressed.
It was the joint most expensive deal in our test but you get a lot of food, so I thought it was great value with no need to buy lots of extras.
Tesco, £6 One Tesco Finest pizza and a side bread (Clubcard holders) – 2/5
YOU have to have a Clubcard to make the most of this deal.
While it was essentially the same price as the Sainsbury’s offering, it is a great option for one person.
Or if you want to share, you can always bulk up the meal by buying a salad as well.
Loved the variety of pizza toppings on offer and the Finest range tasted really good.
Side options were limited to breads.

Morrisons, £10 Two 14in Market Street pizzas and Nachos – 5/5
HUGE pizzas and lovely that you could opt for half and half, as it gave us the chance to try different flavours.
One was quite spicy with the tabasco, jalapenos and nduja sausage toppings, but it was a very generous helping and a lovely crisp base.
The nachos were delicious too, large, and a nice change from what others were offering.
It was all easy to prepare and you save yourself £3 on individual prices with this deal.
Iceland, £10 Two Chicago Town Pizza’s, four-pack of Budweiser or two bottles of Pepsi Max – 3/5
THE four-pack of beers costs £4.45 so this was a great deal, as you are getting the pizzas for less than £2.80 each.
They were a decent size, with a lovely dough and tasted good quality for the price.
You could choose from Four Cheese, Stuffed Crust, Pepperoni or Honey Barbecue Salami.
I would have liked to see some more interesting flavour options included.
But for the price, you can’t really go wrong.
Waitrose, £12 Two stone-baked pizzas plus two extras – 5/5
OUT of all the deals I tried, this was one of the most versatile.
The pizza flavours of Vegetable Antipasti, Barbecue Chicken and Spicy Beef were far more exciting than most of the other deals and tasted delicious.
You also had a good choice of extras, so you could go for a side – which include garlic dough balls and halloumi fries – or a pudding or a beer.
There was a great selection and it felt like a decent quantity of food.
Asda, £10 Two pizzas, one dip and either a side or a dessert – 4/5
THE kids were excited by these pizzas, which were packaged up to look like a proper takeaway.
There were some great flavours on offer and plenty of choice. Lots of varieties for sides and puddings too.
The real standout was the Cookie Dough Dessert, which the kids lapped up and I would definitely buy again.
Reasonable value for a tenner, though if you don’t need all the extras the pizzas are only £3 by themselves.
