Gautam Gambhir’s HEAD Coach Appointment by BCCI Getting Delayed Due to THIS Reason

Gambhir and BCCI are having salary negotiations and that is the cause of the delay.

Mumbai: For over a month, it is being reported that Gautam Gambhir is set to take over the reins of India coach from Rahul Dravid. Gambhir was interviewed recently by the CAC and now it is just a matter of time that the announcement happens. So, what is the reason for the delay by the BCCI? As per a report in the Indian Express, Gambhir and BCCI are having salary negotiations and that is the cause of the delay. The new coach would join the Indian cricket team from the Sri Lanka series.

Currently, the Indian T20I team is in Zimbabwe for a five-match series. VVS Laxman is the interim coach of the side.

In a few days from now, the Indian board is all set to invite applications for the team’s support staff as the tenures of batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and fielding coach T Dilip ended after the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies.

Amid all the talks of the new coach, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has called for Dravid to be bestowed with the Bharat Ratna for his contributions in Indian cricket. Having made his debut for India in 1996, the former India captain played 164 Tests, 344 ODIs, and 1 T20I for the country. During his 16-year-old long international career, Dravid scored more than 24000 runs, thus etching his name as one of the stalwarts of Indian cricket.

Post-retirement, Dravid enjoyed success in coaching too, having won the U-19 World Cup with the Boys in Blue in 2018 and the T20 World Cup with the men’s senior team last month. Under his guidance, India had also finished runners-up in World Test Championship final and ODI World Cup final in 2023.
