John Cena Announces Retirement Plans From WWE

He's hanging it up, but not just yet.

John Cena is getting ready to hang up his wrestling belt for good. But fans will have a chance to say goodbye first.

During an appearance in Toronto over the weekend, Cena broke the news to the crowd, revealing that next year will be his last in the WWE. “Thank you so much for letting me play in the house that you built for so many years,” he said.

Cena told fans to expect a farewell tour and a final fight that will give fans a proper send-off, according to The Hollywood Reporter. During a post-match press conference, Cena told reporters that he felt physically “at my end" in the sport, which is famously tough on the body. He's expected to appear in 2025's “Royal Rumble,” “Elimination Chamber” and “WrestleMania," as well as 30–40 dates next year, The Athletic reports

Cena is one of the most popular professional wrestlers of all time, with 16 WWE championships to his name. He first rose to prominence in the early 2000s as the "Doctor of Thuganomics" before transitioning to his real name. He's since launched a career in Hollywood, appearing in films like Ricky Stanicky, Blockers, Fast & FuriousBarbie, and The Suicide Squad.
