Celtics First-Round Draft Pick Grew Up A Red Sox Fan

Despite growing up over 1,500 miles away from Fenway Park in Nebraska, Boston Celtics first-round draft pick Baylor Scheierman grew up a Red Sox fan.

Due to having no professional teams in the state of Nebraska, Scheierman got to pick what teams he could be a fan of, and he chose the Red Sox.

The guard got into Boston a few days before having to head to Auerbach Center to train for Summer League, so he has yet to visit the home of the Red Sox. When Scheierman does find the time to explore Boston his first stop will be to see the iconic Green Monster.

“I actually grew up a Red Sox fan so I’m excited to get out to Fenway Park and see the Green Monster myself,” Scheierman told reporters, per ABC6’s Ian Steele.

There was no specific reason for becoming a Red Sox fan, but the first-round draft pick said that he loved watching David Ortiz and Dustin Pedroia.

Scheireman’s ties to Boston does not just extend from his fandom for a Boston team, he also had been looked at by the Celtics two-years prior to being drafted to them.

The 23-year-old will make his official debut with the Celtics at the NBA 2K25 Summer League in Las Vegas. The first game is set for July 13 at 6:30 p.m. ET against the Miami Heat at Cox Pavillion.
