Special Olympics Kansas to kick off summer competitions

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Olympic summer games aren't just happening in Paris throughout the next couple of weeks.

The 2024 Special Olympics Kansas begin their summer games this Saturday, July 13, with their North Central Regional Swimming Competition at Hummer Sports Park.

The region includes athletes from Topeka, Manhattan, Salina, McPherson, Beloit and Junction City.

After the regional match, the state swimming competition takes place in Topeka on Aug. 3, with athletes from all over the state of Kansas competing for the gold.

Swimming isn't the only sport happening this summer in Topeka for Special Olympics Kansas.

"On July 27, we will have our North Central Bowling competition," Ashley Pippin, Digital Marketing Coordinator with Special Olympics Kansas, said. "So again, athletes from that region will be here in Topeka at the West Ridge Lanes I believe, competing in bowling."

Special Olympics is a non-profit organization that provides health and wellness, training and sports to people with intellectual disabilities all across Kansas and the United States.
