Rensselaer County swears in five new corrections officers
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office welcomed five new corrections officers on Monday. A swearing-in ceremony took place at the county's public safety building in Troy.
The sheriff said recruiting employees has been challenging for agencies around the state. The office brought in a part-time recruiter, who has gone to schools and career fairs to meet with potential staff members. Leaders said those efforts are paying off.
"He's working diligently to do that," Rensselaer County Sheriff Kyle Bourgault said. "The five today are the fruits of what he's been working hard to accomplish, and we're hoping that continues."
The sheriff said the office would like to hire about 40 more corrections officers in addition to the ones brought in on Monday.
