Despite the scorching conditions, beachgoers are finding ways to stay cool and enjoy themselves. Eight-year-old Floris Muriq expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "I like the beach and I like the rides. I feel happy when it's hot."

Norwegian tourist Fenn Githfelv, visiting with his family, shared simple strategies for beating the heat: "By going into the water, pretty simple and by eating ice cream."

Other visitors echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of staying hydrated and using sunscreen.

For families with young children, the splash pad at Coney Island offers a safer alternative to the ocean. One parent noted, "My kids are a little scared of the actual ocean," highlighting the pad's appeal for water play without the intimidation of waves and currents.

However, the enjoyment comes with a reminder of water safety. Just days ago, two teenage sisters tragically drowned while swimming at Coney Island Beach after lifeguard hours. It's crucial to note that New York City beaches have lifeguards on duty only until 6 p.m. daily, and swimming is prohibited after hours, though enforcement can be challenging.

As the heat wave continues, city officials are taking measures to help residents cope. Olympic and intermediate-sized pools in New York City have extended their hours to provide additional relief from the extreme temperatures.
