Man Utd now want to sign 27y/o UCL winner, Guardiola believes he’s a ‘really talented player’ - report

Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell is among the options Manchester United are considering as they look for competition and cover for Luke Shaw this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The Red Devils left-back played just 12 Premier League games last season due to multiple muscular injuries, with manager Erik ten Hag claiming while he is the best left-back in the world, he cannot play 60 games per season due to the horrible injury at the start of his career.

As a result, Man United want another quality option in the position after Tyrell Malacia also struggled with his fitness last term, missing the entire campaign.

Chilwell has now emerged as an option for the Old Trafford club, but his injury history is as bad as Shaw’s, and the rumours are as shocking as they come.

While Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola described the England international as a ‘really talented player’ back in June 2019, a ruptured cruciate ligament injury he sustained in November 2021, which saw him miss 178 days of action, has seen his struggle with his fitness since then.

The 27-year-old Chelsea star was unavailable for selection for 151 days last season, missing action through persistent knee problems and a hamstring injury.

Chilwell hit the ground running upon joining the Blues from Leicester City in the summer of 2020, winning the Champions League at the end of his debut campaign, but his fitness record is a huge worry and it makes no sense for Man United to add another injury-prone left-back to their ranks.

He has returned to training after missing out on the England squad for the European Championship, but there are no guarantees he will be able to go through a new season unscathed, and the Red Devils should be looking elsewhere for the reinforcement they crave at left-back.
