Man Utd on 'high alert', £50m PL star has 'no intention' to extend contract - report

Manchester United are set to receive a significant transfer boost with centre-back Marc Guehi ready to reject a new Crystal Palace contract.

The Sun claim Man United and Arsenal are on high alert with Guehi having ‘no intention’ of signing a new deal.

The 23-year-old has been in fine form recently, starting in the first four games of Euro 2024. He missed the quarter-final victory against Switzerland due to suspension.

He is currently earning merely £50,000-a-week at Palace with his contract expiring in 2026.

Marc Guehi could be a good option for Man Utd

The Red Devils are closing on Bayern Munich star Matthijs de Ligt who is eager to re-unite with manager Erik ten Hag.

They have already bid for Jarrad Branthwaite, but Everton rebuffed their initial offer. Leny Yoro is another centre-back on United’s shortlist.

Guehi is a robust alternative for United if Everton continue to play hardball over Branthwaite.

The centre-back featured 29 times in the 2023/24 season as he missed a part of the campaign due to a knee injury.

He made 3.5 clearances and 1.1 tackles in the league per outing last term. Branthwaite had better numbers – 4.5 clearances and 1.4 tackles per game.

However, Guehi boasts a superior passing accuracy of 87 percent, compared to Branthwaite’s 80 percent.

Ten Hag wants his centre-backs to be technically sound and swift ball passers. The Palace star definitely fits that criteria.

The Eagles are set to demand at least £50m to sanction his exit but might have to decrease their asking price if Guehi declines contract negotiations.

Arsenal are said to be interested in acquiring his services but their main focus is on landing Riccardo Calafiori.

We don’t believe they would sign Calafiori and Guehi in the same transfer window.
