In a clip which has racked up nearly 2,000 likes, they showed how they did all the work themselves.

Their major gripes with their old kitchen were the plain, tiled walls and the cupboard, which had thermofoil vinyl attached.

Their first job was to remove the vinyl, sand down the doors and spray paint them a gorgeous duck egg blue colour.

Then it was time to tackle the walls, and cover up their white tiles.

For this, they turned to Wickes’ panelling, and a Primed Beaded MDF Panel costs £33.

The description reads: “The Primed Beaded MDF Panel offers a flexible and aesthetically pleasing alternative to conventional cladding materials.

“With its finely crafted beaded design, this MDF sheet not only provides functional utility but also enhances the visual appeal of spaces where it’s used.

“Easy to install and can be painted or finished to match your specific decor preferences, giving you the creative freedom to achieve your desired look.”

They finished off by chopping their own wooden counter and putting it in place.

David Harrison-Colley, who runs the account, told Fabulous: “The background to the project was that we wanted to give it a little ‘glow-up’ as the vinyl had started peeling from some of the cabinets and the freestanding oven we’d been left by the previous owner was broken.

“We’re into ‘thrifting’ and upcycling, so decided to see what we could do to make it better while we waited for planning approval to eventually extend the kitchen.

“Because the tiles had been cut around the wall cabinets we decided to cover them with the beadboard as it was quicker and cheaper than taking the tiles off and replacing them.”

The DIY fans showed off the finished kitchen, and although they’d only made a few tweaks, the impact was huge.

So much so that people were quick to comment and say it looked like their “dream” kitchen.

They aren’t the only people to put off buying an expensive kitchen to do the work themselves.

One woman shared how she was quoted £18k for a new kitchen so did it herself for £155 with some MDF and paint .

Jill shared her story on Channel 5’s Your Dream Kitchen For Less.

“My old kitchen was just dark and dingy,” she said. “We’d had it for 18 years and I was just ready for a change.”

Jill was quoted a number of eye-watering sums for the renovation but she wasn’t willing to splash too much cash.

So, she put her hard hat on and took matters into her own hands… literally.

Her first port of call was to visit a local timber merchant, who cut her some sheets of MDF for a mere £30.

She then cut it into panels and stuck the MDF onto a flat-panel cupboard to make them look like shaker doors.
