More Cooper Flagg Select Team Video
This is so good Coach K might be re-thinking retirement.
By now you’ve probably heard that Blue Devil Cooper Flagg had an amazing afternoon against Team USA, leading the Select Team to a near upset. According to the New York Post, it was a stunning performance.
We thought we’d link the video of the 4th quarter here so you can see for yourself. You’ll see his in-your-face shot against Anthony Davis after A.D. blocked his shot Sunday. You’ll see his amazing follow shot - and more. It’s pretty great stuff.
What’s equally impressive are the comments from some of the players.
- Jalen Duren: He showed no fear. He came and worked hard every day. You would think he’s already here, you know what I mean?”
- Jaime Jaquez: “Coop was playing out of his mind.”
- Trayce Jackson-Davis: “I just think that he’s got a competitive fire, and he’s not afraid of anyone and he’s gonna go at you. You need that as a player. And when you’re already like that, and you’re 17, the sky’s the limit.”
- Devin Booker: “He wants it, you see how bad he wants it.”
Did you catch it? They’re talking about him - a 17-year-old who has not played a single college game - as a freaking peer. He’s not The Kid. He’s not the Rook. He’s their peer.
We’ve watched this game a long time and can honestly say we’ve never seen that before, at least not in this situation. But in a bigger picture: can you ever remember seeing that?
Compare it to Caitlin Clark’s treatment in the WNBA. She has come in with greatness written all over her and has been treated with disdain and jealousy.
Team USA, by contrast, is excited for Flagg’s insanely good play. He belongs and they recognize it. This year is going to be some rock star Duke Basketball.
