CPSO finds body of African-American child in water behind Vinton Welcome Center

CALCASIEU PARISH, La. (KLFY)-- The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office discovered the body of an African-American child floating in the water behind the Vinton Welcome Center Monday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m., CPSO were sent to the center in reference to witnesses seeing a body in the water. After authorities made it to the center, they observed a body floating in the water behind the welcome center. The CPSO Marine Division recovered the body.

The initial investigation showed the body to be that of an African-American child. No obvious signs of injuries were discovered, but this is an ongoing investigation, according to CPSO. The cause of the death will be determined by the coroner.

“It is with a heavy heart we have to share the news of the young boy found earlier today. At this time we continue to have detectives on scene and are working to identify him.  We have checked with local agencies in our area as well as Texas and there appears to be no cases of a missing child reported that match the description. We are asking anyone who may have information or anyone who may have been in the area of the Vinton Welcome Center and observed any suspicious activity, no matter how minimal it may seem, to call CPSO at 491-3605,” Sheriff Stitch Guillory shared.
