New Orleans couple working to revitalize Jeanerette with help of film industry

IBERIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) --- One New Orleans couple is making moves to bring more life to Jeanerette with the help of the film industry after their home was featured in the AMC TV series "Mayfair Witches."

"Amazing things are happening in this tiny town that people have given up hope because somebody dropped money on us in New Orleans to film a tv show. We realized we needed to use as a change agent for good," Liz Creel said.

Creel and her husband Terry Creel recently purchased the Albania Mansion outside of Jeanerette. Liz Creel said she found a love for the city of Jeanerette and knew she and her husband had an opportunity to bring new life to it. The couple purchased two abandoned buildings along main street to open up businesses like the newly opened "Main Street Mercantile." Jeanerette Mayor Carol Bourgeois Jr. said the work to develop the community is a priority he has always wanted for residents coming in.

"We want to help develop our community to keep it and keep it going and, you know, keep the cultural components going as well as the economic development side of things," the mayor said.

Liz Creel hopes the work she and her husband are doing can help be an influence in others to invest in small towns across Acadiana which can be great for the entire region.

"Think about what that would be for this whole region of Louisiana," Liz Creel said. "If people who want to come to and visit can go to Franklin, can stop in Baldwin can come to Jeanerette, can go to New Iberia and can go to Lafayette. All of this along the Bayou Teche is an area that can come back and can be put into the tourism industry and can also provide more for our locals."
