Trichologist raves about ‘hero ingredient’ that’s the ‘key building block’ for growing healthy, voluminous hair

A TRICHOLOGIST has revealed the hero ingredient to look out for when buying haircare products to stimulate growth.

She shared her tips for getting visibly healthier tresses in as little as three months.

Angela Onuoha is a certified trichologist and an expert advisor at Rhyme & Reason, a haircare brand sold at Target.

Speaking to The U.S. Sun, she shared advice for nurturing locks.

POWERFUL PRODUCT

Onuoha said chemists have “studied for years” to formulate and test the haircare products that we see on the shelves.

Therefore, the products on the market are more effective than homemade treatments.

She recommended reading the packaging to choose a product suited to your needs and using it consistently.

“If you’re losing a lot of hair and notice a lack in density it might be a good option to go for volume-increasing products to make the hair appear thicker than it currently is,” she said.

She recommended Rhyme & Reason Volume & Body Shampoo and Conditioner for “nourishing” the hair and scalp.

“The formula contains ingredients like Bamboo fiber extract that gives you that texture to hold volume,” she said.

“But also, Lilly Pilly, an amazing ingredient that is known to soothe, nourish and moisturize the scalp.

“And in my opinion the hero ingredient: peptides, these are a key building block for healthy voluminous hair.”

SMOOTH STYLING

Onuoha said the time it takes for hair to grow is determined by the condition of the hair follicles and the causes of any shedding.

“When it comes to Telogen Effluvium, which is a form of temporary hair loss it can take anything between two to six months if the cause is tackled for you to see hair regrowth,” she said.

She said if hair loss is being caused by an internal problem it will fall out regardless of what you do with it.

“Gentle hair practices are always advised with or without hair loss so I would always prevent wearing tight hairstyles like a slick bun or high ponytail for long periods,” she said.

She said straight or wavy hair should only be brushed when dry, then apply a leave-in conditioner or a product like the Rhyme & Reason Argan Oil smooth finishing serum.

However, curly or coily hair should be brushed wet and with a conditioner applied.

She recommended the Rhyme & Reason Quench & Curl Conditioner to create a “barrier” between the hair and the brush to glide through while reducing damage and breakage.

FOLLICLE FIXES

Onuoha said there are various causes of hair loss but with patience and consistency, locks can be regrown.

These include “genetics, hormonal changes like imbalances as PCOS, thyroid disorders, but also pregnancy, postpartum and menopause,” she said.

“Certain medications can have a negative effect on hair growth or hair integrity.

“Physical or emotional stress, as recovering from an injury or surgery or even physical trauma and nutritional deficiencies.”

In addition to topical treatments, she suggested getting blood work done so diet can be altered if needed or improved with supplements.

She said results from routine haircare treatment take around three months to show.
