Map shows M25 closures and diversions in place this weekend

Britain’s busiest motorway is set to close over the weekend for the third time this year.

Following planned closures in March and May, part of the M25 is set to close yet again for another full weekend.

Although previous closures reopened again ahead of schedule, the road is currently set to be closed from 9pm on Friday (July 12) until 6am on Monday (July 15).

It will be shut in both directions between junctions 10 and 11 – and National Highways are once again advising drivers to either follow the official diversions or simply to avoid the journey altogether.

The closure and diversions are likely to affect anyone heading to Heathrow or Gatwick Airport this weekend, as well as those hoping to travel to London to watch the Euros final.

Where is the M25 closed this weekend?

The M25 will be closed in both directions this weekend between junction 10, for the A3 heading towards Portsmouth and Guildford, and junction 11, for Woking and Chertsey.

A National Highways spokesperson said: ‘Only travel if necessary. We’re grateful to all drivers who avoided previous closures and completed their journeys in other ways. We urge you to do the same again.

‘If you do travel, expect delays and please leave a lot of extra time for your journey.’

Why is it closed and how long for?

This is the third closure of this part of the M25 in 2024, with two other weekend closures in March and May.

There are two more closures planned for later this year, but those dates are yet to be announced.

National Highways decided to close the motorway in order to demolish a bridge and install a gantry.

This is part of a wider project to install a new roundabout at junction 10, which it’s hoped will make the M25 more safe and eco-friendly.

It’s hoped the work will be completed by next summer.

What diversions are in place?

If you’re heading clockwise, from junction 10 to junction 11 the official diversion is the northbound A3 to Painshill Junction, A245 towards Woking, and then A320 to M25 Junction 11.

Heading anticlockwise, motorists are advised to use the A320 south towards Woking, A245 towards Byfleet and Painshill junction, Southbound A3 to Junction 10.

Jonathan Wade, National Highways Senior Project Manager, said: ‘The previous two closures have gone well with significant progress being made during both.

‘We would urge all drivers to follow the official diversion route as this is the best chance of reaching your destination in good time.

‘Please ignore your satnavs and follow our diversion route instead.’
