Oakland man arrested on suspicion of DUI following injury crash

The collision happened Saturday night at Salinas and Elkhorn roads near Watsonville.

WATSONVILLE – A 34-year-old Oakland man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol following a head-on collision Saturday near Watsonville that left him and six others with moderate to major injuries, according to authorities.

The crash happened around 11 p.m. at Salinas and Elkhorn roads, the California Highway Patrol said.

The man was driving a 2006 Infiniti FX35 with four passengers southbound on Salinas Road when he crossed into the northbound lanes and hit a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado occupied by a 23-year-old Moss Landing man and a juvenile, according to the CHP.

The Chevrolet overturned in the crash.

Everyone in the Infiniti and Chevrolet was taken to area hospitals with moderate to major injuries, the CHP said.

Alcohol was determined to be a factor in the crash and the Oakland man was arrested, according to the CHP.
