Vandalism incidents at Oakland synagogue being investigated as possible hate crimes

At least one person was seen throwing a large object at a window on June 21 and July 6, police said

OAKLAND – Two recent acts of vandalism at an Oakland synagogue are being investigated as possible hate crimes, according to authorities.

The incidents happened in the 3000 block of Lakeshore Avenue, near Lake Merritt, the first taking place just before 11:30 p.m. on June 21 and the second just after midnight on July 6, the Oakland Police Department said in a news release Monday.

At least one person was seen throwing a large object at the synagogue’s window, according to police.

“A police report has been filed and both incidents are being investigated as potential hate crimes,” police said.

Members of the police department’s executive team and command staff have met with the synagogue’s rabbi and are planning to stay in contact, according to police.
