I have better skin than my friends and family – my secret’s a bit depressing but my to-do list’s worked well for me

A Redditor gave a rundown of their regimen in a comment on the social media platform.

They mentioned what really changed their skin for the better, which could come as a surprise to some: purchasing less skincare.

“Using fewer products, starting tretinoin, changing my pillowcases two times a week, and avoiding the sun have been, surprisingly, the things that helped me improve my skin,” they said.

They also added some advice that could come off a bit grim to some.

“I work in an office with no windows, and while it’s depressing, I noticed my skin compared to my friends and family is a lot better,” they said.

“I still have wrinkles but overall the skin looks more healthy and with no dark spots.

“Using fewer products and starting tretinoin has also helped my skin.

“I have rosacea and quite sensitive skin. Right now I found a routine that works really well for me.”

THE EXACT ROUTINE

The Redditor added their specific regimen, fine-tuned for an optimal complexion.

They cleanse their face with La Roche-Posay’s Cicaplast Lavant B5 Purifying Soothing Foaming Gel, sold for $32 at Walmart.

Next, they add in some hydration with La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+ Ultra-Repairing Soothing Balm, $24.98.

For an active ingredient with studies to back up treatment of fine lines — the Redditor uses Tretinoin.

Finally, for days they find themselves in the sun, they’re sure to slather on the SPF.

REDDITORS REACT

Several Reddit users chimed in on the simplified skincare routine that set the commenter apart from friends and family.

“This is so helpful since I have rosacea and have been trying to figure out what brands to use now that I’m getting serious and caring more about skincare after a period of not having a routine,” one wrote.

The Redditors have reason to rejoice over the simple yet effective skincare routine.

According to The Cleveland Clinic, Vitamin B5 — an ingredient found in the La Roche-Posay products — does wonder for hair and skin.

Dermatology resident Taylor Bullock, MD explained the importance of pantothenic acid, which converts to vitamin B5 in the body.

“Pantothenol is a provitamin. When it’s used topically, such as in hair care or skin care products, it’s converted in your body to vitamin B5 also known as pantothenic acid,” Dr. Bullock told The Cleveland Clinic.

“Pantothenol is a common ingredient in skincare and hair products I recommend, particularly for people who are prone to dryness.”
